Theme trail from the Roman era
Almost 2000 years ago, the Romans built the only imperial state road across the Alps - the Via Claudia Augusta. It stretched from the Adriatic city of Altinum near Venice over the Reschen Pass and Fern Pass to the Danube and for centuries formed the most important link between the Roman motherland and the rich provinces in the north. Today, the Via Claudia Augusta is an interesting theme trail with high cultural value.
Beginning in Donauwörth (D), the varied route leads over the Fernpass and the Reschenpass to Ostiglia (I). In Fließ is the documentation center Via Claudia Augusta with all the finds of the Tyrolean section. All sections of the Via Claudia Augusta and many other beautiful bike tours of the TirolWest vacation region can be found on the interactive map.
CAUTION: Inform yourself, about current closures at the Fernpass. It is generally recommended to cross the Fernpasshöhe to Fernstein, for example, with the bus , because the road is very narrow and also dangerous due to trucks.
Banned is the trip with the bike over the federal road 180 from Kajetansbrücke direction Nauders. If you want to cycle the route, you have to go via Martina/Martinsbruck (Switzerland) - to the route.
