The Roman Tower (also known as the Lötz Tower) dates back to the time of the Appenzell Wars in 1406 and was part of a defensive complex that originally consisted of three towers and a continuous wall extending all the way to the Inn River. The Roman Tower was completely renovated in 2006 and now serves as a visitor tower.
