Magic of the Rauhnächte - smoking & customs in the Kräuterstadl

The mysterious time between Christmas and Epiphany is known in many regions as the Rauhnächte - a threshold time when the old ends and the new begins. Traditionally, the twelve nights between December 24th and January 6th are considered to be particularly mystical: the "Wild Hunt" roams around, the burning of incense in the house and yard drives away evil spirits, and old customs tell of Frau Holle or the Percht as the guardians of this period

In the Alps, smoking on certain nights is still alive and well. Especially in rural families, burning incense on Christmas Eve has a special significance. The oracle on the so-called Lost Days to obtain clues about the coming year is also deeply rooted in tradition.

In the atmospheric Zammer Kräuterstadl, there is a lot to learn about the most important incense plants, traditional incense methods and the ancient knowledge surrounding the Holy Nights.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The Kräuterstadl is heated and accessible via a short but steep staircase. For reasons of hygiene, dogs are not permitted to enter, as food is also offered in the barn.
