Tulln-born trumpeter Richard "Ritsche" Koch has lived in Berlin for more than 20 years, where he has long been an integral part of the music scene, attracting attention in various bands and formations (including Space Madness, Ensemble Olaf Ton, Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra) and in collaborations with musicians ranging from Frank Gratkowski to Ingrid Laubrock.
Richard Koch's own quartet, with Michael Hornek (piano), Matthias Pichler (double bass) and Moritz Baumgärtner (drums), is a reflection of the bandleader's versatility.
On the new album FLUSS, it is once again the outstanding compositions that distinguish Richard Koch from so many jazz musicians out there looking for meaning. Because he has such a great sense of melody, his quartet doesn't need any sound distortions or new high-performance records. Koch's quartet sounds traditional in the best sense of the word, in a tradition with the quartets and quintets of the great trumpeters of jazz. (R.I.P. Jamie Branch!).
