The E5 runs over a total distance of 600 km from Lake Constance to the Adriatic Sea.
The most famous part leads from Oberstdorf to Meran through the impressive mountains of Tyrol almost always on high alpine trails.
After a long descent from the Memminger Hütte through one of the most beautiful high mountain valleys in Europe, the Zammer Loch, the holiday region TirolWest with the place Zams in Tirol is a popular stage destination.
Wonderful here is the contrast between the bizarre limestone massifs of the Lechtaler and the lovelier primeval rock of the Ötztal Alps. Nowhere are pronounced climbing sites happening that demand more than head for heights and sure-footed walking, yet the hiker gains a wonderful insight into the Tyrolean high mountain regions.
