European long-distance hiking trail E5: it covers a total distance of 600 km from Lake Constance to the Adriatic Sea.
The most famous part leads over 104 kilometers (altitude difference uphill 4,950 m / downhill 6,470 m) from Oberstdorf to Merano through the impressive mountain world of Tyrol, almost always on high alpine trails.
After a long descent from the Memminger Hütte through one of the most beautiful high mountain valleys in Europe, the Zammer Loch, the TirolWest holiday region with the town of Zams is a popular stage destination.
The contrast between the bizarre limestone massifs of the Lechtal and the lovelier primary rock of the Ötztal Alps is wonderful here. Nowhere are you going to go through specific climbing areas that require more than a head for heights and sure-footed walking, and yet mountain hikers gain a wonderful insight into the Tyrolean high mountain regions.
