To the east of Stanz and above the district Perjen, the Schrofenstein ruins are located on a rocky ledge.
To the east, in Stanz and above the Perjen district of Landeck, the ruins of Schrofenstein Castle sit perched on a rocky outcrop. The castle was once used to monitor the trade routes to South Tyrol, via the Fern Pass and the Arlberg. Beginning in the 13th century, the castle was owned by the Schrofensteiner family. It is now privately owned.
